Evans was born on October 17, 1981 in Ghana to Emmanuel and Rose (Ampomah) Ofori-Amoah. Shortly After his birth, his father Emmanuel passed away from illness. Still a child, Evans was put under the charge of his uncle, Benjamin Ofori-Amoah. With Benjamin and his family living abroad, Evans was raised in the care of his aunt, Elizabeth Amoah.
A trip to Ghana in 2004 was the first chance for us to reunite with Evans as a family. Although we were cousins by birth, our Ghanaian culture meant that we were brothers. And, that’s how Evans treated us– throughout that trip, and long after, we always remembered his kindness, energy, and willingness to help us connect with our shared history in Ghana.
Evans joined the family in the United States in 2005, where he successfully completed both his undergraduate and graduate studies at St. Cloud State University. He later moved to St. Paul, MN, where he worked for 3M in Information Security– a job and company he was always proud of.
In the Fall of 2015, we learned Evans had been diagnosed with rare combination of Leukemia and Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. The news renewed our efforts to stay close, connected and supportive throughout the following months of his treatment. On October 17, 2015, we gathered as a family to celebrate his 34th birthday.
